I Have a Sore Foot!

I have a sore foot!

I mentioned it to a couple of people and didn't think very much of it, because it sort of came and went. It's weird because it hurts more when I walk after being in bed (hmmmm bed) or sitting for a while.

That combined with a cold (boo hoo) has put me off walking lately!

This weekend it seemed to get worse, so I thought I had better get myself off to the doc.

He had me diagnosed within a minute! What a relief to know its not vascular, as I thought.  But what a bloody pain.

So what is Planter Fasciitis you ask? Good question!  Its an inflammation of the Planter Fascia tendon which holds your foot together from the heel to the ball that results from overpronation, tight calves and achilles or "poor foot biomechanics, age or weight gain".

The treatments are wide and varied and I am really disppointed to say that one of them is rest - disppointed because I need to start my long walks again soon...before I get too comfy in my trackie daks. I have tracked down some exercises to help make my Fascia more flexible - sounds good doesn't it and hope to be back in action in no time!

Wish me luck!

Oh you poor thing! I had that in my 20s and it was a bugger. At the time I spent a fortune on physio as I was a pretty good sportswoman and didn't want to miss out on the cricket season. Nothing worked but staying off it.

However, if it was to happen again, i wouldn't hesitate and go to a chiropractor and acupuncturist. I know I'm alternative, but I just had an amazing result with taking my 11 year old who had heel pain. X-rays and bone scans could not come up with anything. Chiro improved it after the first visit and after 3 we didn't need to go. Basically worked on releasing the tension that had built up in her achilles (which attaches under the heel). Have a think and see what works for you!

I had that a few months ago and got rid of it within 2 weeks!
Anytime you are sitting down, rub a golf ball under your foot. It hurts like a BITCH but stretches your foot out. Then, Calf Stretches - whenever you can, loosen those babies up!
At night, tape your foot so your toes are trying to touch your shins. Google "taping plantar facitis" and you'll see what I mean.
Above all, rest - for a week, just one week and it will make all the difference.
GOOD LUCK!
